UPDATE concerning 2006 South Atlantic Regionals and Hurricane Wilma

Due to the possible impact of Hurricane Wilma, U. S. Figure Skating and the Tampa Bay Skating Club have made the decision to delay the start of the 2006 South Atlantic Regional Championships in Tampa, Florida. The competition will now begin on Wednesday, Oct. 26 and run through Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005.

The safe travel of all athletes, coaches, officials and families was the primary factor in making the decision to delay the start of the competition. Although the impact of Hurricane Wilma is impossible to predict, current information has the hurricane scheduled to make landfall in Florida by Sunday. By delaying the start of the competition until Wednesday, it is anticipated that the hurricane will have moved through the area allowing for safe travel. Airlines are currently offering revised ticket policies allowing travelers to change their itinerary at no charge. Please consult directly with your airline carrier for their current policy concerning Hurricane Wilma. For more information, contact Lyn Edens, Competition Chair.

 

HOTEL ROOMS AVAILABLE: If any one is in need of accommodations during regionals, there are plenty of 1, 2 & 3 bedroom suites available at the Mainsail Suites Hotel on Hillsborough Avenue in Tampa. This hotel is approximately 20-25 minutes east of the rink. For more information, call 813-243-2640. Be sure to mention you are part of the skating competition.

If you can spare some time during the competition, volunteer opportunities are available.

TICKETS - Both daily and all event tickets will be available for sale at the door. Daily Admission is $6; All-Event Pass is $20.

Parking - Parking is very limited immediately around our rink. Additional parking is available the Wal-Mart parking lot next door (section closest to the rink /Forest Lakes Rd entrance) and across the street at the strip mall. . (If you park across the street, use extreme care while crossing Forest Lakes Blvd.) Suggestion: Drop skaters, younger children or items you may be bringing at the front entrance of the rink and then promptly move your car to one of these parking areas. Please honor the reserved parking spaces for our officials.
