The Tampa
Bay Skating Club was established in 1987. When the Tampa
Bay Skating Academy rink opened in Oldsmar in Spring 1992, we
moved into our primary home. Since then, we have expanded to include
members at our associate rink, the TBSA/Westfield
Mall Countryside in Clearwater.
We currently
have 246 members (includes skating members, parent members, coaches,
and judges/officials).
The club
holds several test sessions a year as well as our annual summer competition,
the Orange Blossom Open, held each August since 1992. This competition
brings in an average of 150-200 competitors each year and in 1997 was
part of the non-qualifying events for South Atlantics.
We have
hosted the 1992 and 1997 South Atlantic Regional championships, the
1998 Eastern Sectional Championships, and in March 1999, the Precision
(now called Synchronized Skating) Nationals. In May 1996, we hosted
a USFSA regional training camp and held a second training camp in August
2000.
We are
fortunate to have top level coaches and choreographers, some of whom
are former world, international and Olympic competitors such as Jim
Millns, Petr Barna, Andrea Barnova and Pauline Williams Gasparini.
We are
proud of our skating members and have been well represented at Regionals,
Sectionals and U.S. Nationals. Tampa Bay Skating Club has had skaters
compete at U.S. Nationals and Junior Nationals since 1996 including
the 1996 Novice Pairs Champions Brandi Seabol and Cheyne Coppage and
1998 Junior Pairs Pewter medalists Tiffany Sfikas and Josiah Modes.
If you
are ever visiting the Tampa Bay area, we cordially invite you to visit
and SKATE WITH US! For further information, please call the club office
at 813-854-4019 and leave a message.
