2006 South Atlantic Regional Championships
Tampa Bay Skating Club Member Page

Four days until Non-Qualifying Competition begins! Eight days until Qualifying Competition begins!

Club members need to check this page periodically for announcements and information pertaining to the 2006 South Atlantic Regionals Championships we are hosting.

Judges' Hosptiality
We have the monumental task of feeding the judges and officials three meals a day during regionals (20 during non-qualifying and about 40 during qualifying), so we are calling on all club members to starting planning on what you can contribute to our judges' hospitality room during regionals. We need lots of contributions. All efforts, small and large, will be welcome. Everyone who plans to come to the rink with a skater or as a spectator should plan to bring something -- food, drinks, paper goods, snacks, soups, etc.

A few tips - Have a special dish or dessert you are known for? Make and bring that. Judges love homemade items! If you know a store, restaurant or bakery that makes a one-of-a-kind item, that would be a good item. Avoid overly spicy dishes. Some of the judges are trying to eat healthy like the rest of us, so a few health-conscienous dishes (salads, low fat entrees, veggies, roasted or baked chicken, fruit, etc) would be nice. Fresh salads with innovative greens and ingredients are healthy and enjoyable for the judges to eat. (Make sure to bring dressings in separate dishes to serve on the the side.) Keep hot food hot and cold food cold. Bring serving dishes and utensils with your food (tape your name on them so we know who to return them to.)

If you are willing to help, please contact Anna Maria Menna, Hospitality Chair at Anna-Maria@tampabay.rr.com . If you already have something in mind that you would like to bring, please let her know. If you would like an "assignment," let her know that, too

. In addition, if any one would like to volunteer to coordinate or take care of an entire meal (i.e., lunch on Wednesday, dinner on Thursday), we'd be thrilled to accept your efforts.
If you have contacts at a restaurant that can contribute food, please let us know that, too. (P.S.: We also need food for the coaches room too!)

Volunteers

We have a special need for volunteers for the following areas:

Registration
Practice Ice Monitors
Competition Ice Monitors
(Click here to read special announcement.)
Airport Pick Up
Medical Personnel (see note below)**
Runners
Credential Desk

.
If you have not already signed up to do something, now is the time. We can use everybody (and every BODY!) in some capacity. No area or task is too small.
We are even giving all volunteers a nice polo shirt to wear when you are working your shift.
So what are you waiting for? Bring your smiling face and special talents to help out.
To volunteer, contact any board member (see the officers page) or fill out the regionals volunteer form and send to Linda McNamara, volunteer coordinator or drop off at the TBSA club office.

**We are in special need of volunteers who are trained in first aid or CPR, or anyone who is a nurse, EMT, Paramedic, MD, PT or nursing assistant.
If you possess these skills and would be availlable to help at any time during regionals, please contact Becky Stafford at mstaffo2@tampabay.rr.com

RUNNERS

Teresa Neilsen, Runners chair, says thank you to all those who served as runners during non-qualifying. You did a great job!

The schedule for runners during qualifying events has changed due to changing the starting day from Tuesday to Wednesday. Please click on the link below. If you signed up to help on Tuesday, please take a look at the schedule and select a another day/shift you can sign up for. We need runners thoroughout the competition. Home schoolers, please consider volunteering to run during the school day when many of your fellow club members are not available. Skaters, please take a look at the schedule and consider running after your events are completed for the day. Please contact Teresa and let her know when your children would like to work. Sign-up sheets will also be posted on the wall near the club bulletin board at the Oldsmar rink.

On the second page of both documents you will find a list of expectations (rules) that we need the runners to closely follow. Parents, please go over these rules with your children before they sign up to make sure that they understand the importance of their job. If you have any questions or concerns about them, please feel free to contact me.

Revised Runner Schedule for Qualifying

Teresa is also looking for someone (an adult) to co-chair the runner committee with her. She needs someone who can be available to be at the competition overseeing the runners when she is not able to be there. If you would like to help Teresa with this task, please contact her at (813) 417-1171or email: tnielsen@tampabay.rr.com

CREDENTIAL DESK

During the Qualifying competition, everyone who comes in the door must have a credential or buy a daily ticket. We need to staff the Credential table at the door with adult volunteers to distribute the credentials when people check in and to check them as people come in the door throughout the duration of the competition. All volunteers will receive their own credential at no charge.

Due to the change in the competition schedule, please check the revised sign up sheet for the Credential Table (link below). Each time listed is a start time and you can select the number of hours you are able to work. This will allow for greater flexibility in everyone’s schedule, especially if you only have an hour or two to give at a time. Please give whatever time you are able. The more help we have, the easier it will be on everyone. Please take a look at it and let Teresa know what hour(s) you can work. You can sign up when you come in for practice ice on Monday. For further information, contact Teresa Neilsen, Credential Committee at tnielsen@tampabay.rr.com or call (813) 417-1171

Revised Credential Desk Schedule/Sign Up

ATTENTION TBSC CLUB COACHES: Teresa will be opening up the credential table on Monday afternoon from about 3:00pm to 6:00pm to pass out your credentials. Save yourself the wait in the line on Wednesday and come see her on Monday instead.

CALLING ALL GUYS (especially Dads!)

      1) This Thursday night, October 20, we will be meeting at the rink to set up for Regionals. We can use lots of help with this, and it would be especially nice if we saw some of our TBSC dads help out that night. Set up involves moving tables, chairs, boxes and other things, as well as putting on table linens, setting up hospitality, the judges' room, etc. This is a good volunteer opportunity for anyone who cannot help out during the day due to work committments and we can especially use our TBSC dads to help out with the heavy lifting.

      2) Who likes to barbeque? One of our TBSC dads will be operating the Skating Dads' Tropical Grill during the lunchtime hours outside the rink Tuesday-Saturday during the qualifying events as a fundraiser for the club and to offer an alternative to vending machine food to the competitors. If you can spare an hour or two between 11:30am and 2:00pm, please stop by to help out. Contact George Taylor at mardog49@aol.com for more information or to offer assistance.

      3) Don't forget that our job isn't over after the last marks have been posted on Saturday night. We still have a significant amount of clean-up to do. This is another area where we could really use the help of our TBSC dads, in addition to others. Even if you cannot volunteer during the week, please plan to come out on Saturday, Oct. 29. to help us break down the event after things wind up. If we have a large crew, things can move quite quickly.
